Gargoyles

As descendants of dinosaurs with thick skins, the development or mutation of their skin into a rock surface for skin is do to the extreme heat that the gargoyles were exposed to in their natural habitat, volcanoes. When their ancestors and other dinosaurs were almost wiped from the face of the earth, the gargoyles saw man become the dominant life form on earth. Man was one of their main food supplies, but gargoyles had a natural hatred for humans. After the big collision and man evolved from ape, the human became the sole source of food for the gargoyles. So, the hatred grew and grew until the Dark Ages when because of the bubonic plague the human population declined so severely that the gargoyles were caught off guard and humanity was able to repel them and use them as statues. Gargoyles are hell-bent on destroying humanity and becoming the dominant life form on Earth. Gargoyles are not a viable threat quite yet as their numbers are none too great and the fact their hibernation period is quite a long time at 17 years. They certainly are determined devils, who when it comes time for the eggs to hatch, the two guardians of the eggs kidnap humans to feed to the hatchlings.
